I think every high school needs a Planned Parenthood program and provide free condoms for their students. Teenagers will have sex no matter what anyone says because they are curious. The number of teens having sex, having babies, and spreading STD's have sky rocketed since the 70's.
Giving away condoms can not only prevent STD's and teen pregnancies, but it can also cut down on the taxes we have to pay in welfare for their babies, and the medical care for the teenagers that get the STD's.

Im think that giving out condoms is a good idea. We have a high teen pregnacy rate for an industrial nation. The idea that making protection widley availible does put foward the idea that is ok to make responible descions about sex, including not having sex. I think a dilouge is just as important. Nobody talks about sex except in a negative light, and people that can't get past their own view of how sex is immorral unless you are married force it inot the background. The true irony is that highly republican states that push the morality "argument" actually have higher rates of teen pregnancy. This reallyisn't a debate on facts (more teens with condoms = less babies), its a push of a morral argument by people as imperfect as the rest of us. Lets evolve past this.

yes they should be
because abstinece programs don't work, studies show. teens who made the abstinence pledge were more likely to involve in oral and anal sex, both which, if unprotected can cause transmition of STD's. At the same time, condoms help prevent teen pregnantcy, increasing the chances that the teenager will go to college.
By the way Pepper could not be more wrong, condoms if used properly are almost 100 fool proof in preventing STD's, unfortunetly religious entities have been lying about the use of condoms because they disapprove of them. Look up any respected science study and you will find that info

Condoms should be distributed in ELEMENTARY school, so children can LEARN FACTS like babies DON'T come from storks, or grow in mommies "tummy."
It's our ridiculously provincial, religiously oppressed culture that makes discussing a simple biological function like reproduction so taboo that people feel embarrassed explaining to children that people have sexual intercourse, and sexual intercourse can result in pregnancy.
Teens have been having sex since the beginning of time. Nature isn't stupid. It creates the urge to mate at the age when the animal is ready. The fact that society finds it inconvenient is irrelevant.
If we are going to curtail teen pregnancy, then we must educate and inform our teens of the consequences, the alternatives, and mature, safe way to have sex if they are going to do so. Thinking we can stop or suppress them by keeping them "in the dark" is ridiculous. The hypocrites who scream they want to preserve their children's "innocence" are the same ones who never explain sex to their kids, and then wonder why they get STDs or pregnant at 14.

No. Kids in school should be told not to have sex, and should have enough adult supervision that it's not an issue.
Besides, condoms don't really reduce STDs. Viruses that cause STDs are smaller than the microscopic holes in the latex.

in my highschool they gave away condoms and the today sponge. that was in 1994. we had to go to the nurse to get them if we wanted them. they tried machines in the bathrooms, but it led to water baloon attacks in the hallways.
i never used the free ones that the school nurse would give out.
but it was nice to know that they were offered. they also showed us the finiancial impact of having a baby at an early age and the statistics around teen pregnancy. our health class was actually informative and gave us something to think about.
in my graduating class of 95 people we did not have one high school pregnancy. most of the early pregnancy happend in the 3 or 4th year of college.
i think that giving out condoms in school is a good idea, but it has to be regulated or it will be abused.

No, I don't believe that condoms should be distributed in high schools, because in my opinion that is like saying that it's okay to have sex. Most kids in high school are not mature enough to have sex, and there are some sick individuals who believe that because they have a condom, it's okay to sleep with anyone, regardless of whether the other person consents or not. Sex can wait. Don't corrupt our kids.

If people would wise up about sex, and no be ashamed of it, many problems would go away. I don't think your idea is a bad one, it would really help teen pregnany and STD's. But their is a religious barrier stopping any sort of forward thinking when it come to sex. Also, if people were more familiar with birth control, abortion would be less of an issue.

I agree with Roger. Making condoms so freely available like that sends the message that tons of sex is okay. Condoms do not protect against all STDs either.

NO!!! You're telling kids it's okay to have sex as long as you wear a condom. And that isn't okay. Besides everyone knows about condoms and how easy it is to get yet few bother to wear one when the time comes.
You are just trying to deal with the effects of teen sex. Instead you should focus on preventing it. To prevent it you need to give kids enough high self esteem to know that they don't need sex to feel important and special.
