i prefer watching pro but when it comes to throwing i find it easier and funner to throw a college ball since its not quites as big as an nfl ball. so hell prolly like the college ball better unless of course hes a big guy with big hands then either is fine.
just go to a sporting goods store i think spalding makes it.

the best football i've had so far is a wilson extreme soft grip. you can probably get one from eastbay.com. it may be a little pricey but it's well worth it.
