DVDs and Music CDs released on Tuesdays for several reasons.

Sales Figures are released on Monday.

Consumers know when to look for new releases.

If a Tuesday release is selling well, there still is time to order
more before the weekend.

Shipments of music usually begin to arrive in stores on Thursday. That gives the stores time to coordinate special midnight sales on Monday evening, as opposed to Sunday, which is usually a shorter work day.

This practice appears to have been followed for 20 years.

By releasing new music and video on Tuesdays, they don't have to compete for the weekend movie dollar. The bigwigs don't won't us to have to decide between seeing that new Saw 7 movie OR purchasing that new Beyonce cd. They want us to get both! So Tuesdays for one. Fridays for the other. Back in the day before the day before the day, new releases came out on Tuesdays AND Fridays. New movies on Fridays. Then, music and video was given only a Tuesday release after the popularity of videos. Somewhere along the way, movies can be released now either on Wednesday or Friday. Go figure.

All the major retailers wanted to have one certain day of the week to put out new releases so that customers would know when to rush out and get the latest movies or CD's. It was a lot easier and much less confusing than saying for example, "P. Diddy's new album will be released next Wednesday" and "J. Lo's new album will be released next Friday". As for that specific day being Tuesday, it is a known fact that Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are the busiest days for retailers (First of the week, midweek, and end of the week). Therefore, it makes sense that Tuesday or Thursday would be the conclusion. Hope this helps!

Film companies show that people are more likely to go see a movie on a Friday evening after a long week. I work for a Theater and a Film Company and that is very true. We get a ton of people on Friday nights for new movies. As for CD's, I am not really sure why they are released on Tuesdays. If you live in Kansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma let me know and I can get you a free popcorn certificate.

That's just the day. I don't know why, but since most people are at work or school, makes it much easier for me to slide in a get a new release or buy before sold out.
