I wiegh 120 pounds and I'm about 5'9. I want to lose about 15-20 pounds. Is it safe given my current weight and height? I am not planning on doing anything dangerous, I would just like to diet and do it safely. So is 20 pounds ok?

No way. You're already a little to thin for your height. Don't loose anymore. You could actually stand to gain a few pounds.

you already sound slender for your weight/height range, so what's your exact goal in losing so much more weight? in the case of someone who is already within the normal range, the amount of weight you mention will have a quite significant impact. you also don't state your age, which also has an impact on what you should and shouldn't be attempting. if you want to be more toned and look better at your current weight, perhaps weight training, yoga, or cutting out sugar would give you the body changes you seek. it might even be that cutting back on food would backfire on you by not making your body look better, when, say, improving your posture and muscle tone could make you stand prouder and show off what you've got to the best advantage. you don't state your body type or BMI, so it's hard to put your desire or goals into context. i would consult a doctor or nurse on this one -- someone who can evaluate your physical needs, because yes, your goals might possibly dangerous for your health. think about it: 5'9 @ 100 lbs? that's a little too mary kate-ish. good for you for asking, and good luck.

p.s. i'm not a medical person, but when my slender friends who complain about weight problems finally start to go to the gym or do yoga, i've noticed they become way more happy with their bodies.

It isn't save for you to be only 100 pounds. My step bro is 100 pounds and he's 4'9.

Generally, you should stay @ the 120~140 range. I mean, unless you want to do it, it's up to you, but for health concerns, stay @ what you are weighing right now. It isn't healthy for a girl your height to be that thin!

Well again these are just suggestion.

no ma'am that is not safe at all...you would look anorexic...it would be awful. you probably look quite thin as it is...even if you don't see it. I suggest weight training perhaps...this will give more tone and definition to your body
