I think its easier said than done when people say "don't worry about what other people think" especially if you are in your teens. Obviously you shouldn't care but its only human to not want other people to think you're fake or whatever... The best advice is what others have said.. do it slow, introduce clothing piece by piece week by week.

well, the best thing you have to do is focus your attention on your best assets without looking trashy. Make sure all the clothes you wear say something about who you are, and you are comfortable wearing them. People who are labeled as posers are usually trying too hard to look like Paris Hilton and buy fake designer items to look good. I believe you can make an outfit look ultra expensive as long as you know how to carry yourself. You can add nice details to an outfit using string necklaces, cuff bracelets or a really nice pair of shoes.

Actually, what you might want to do is to go to actually go to good will and look around and be creative about it. I shop at good will and I get complements about my clotes all the time. A good place to get ideas is the fashion runways. No one actually dresses like that so no one will call you a poser. What I do is just collect pictures of what I like and look at them every now and then, and I'm always on the lookout for new runway shows. That way you'll know what you (and you alone) like. Don't be fraid to be wacky and different. Most things that I try on simply becuse they look absurd turn out to be my favorite additions to my wardrobe. I also watch What Not to Wear religiously every friday night on TLC (yes, I have no life) so I can make sure I don't commit a feux pas in my creative escapades. Here's a great place to get stared on your style search. http://www.style.com/

slowly start changing ur style . . . instead of just showing up one day as a different person, each day do a little something, wear a new shirt, and ur old pants, or add a kwl accessory each week, untill u become the person you want to be
my friend used to dress weird, but then once a week she would wear her "pretty shirt" and it seemed each month she had more and more "pretty shirts", she got a haircut before she changed her clothes (it helped make the image seem real) and no one ever called her a poser

Try adding new things one at a time, like a different style of jeans, then a little later, a new shirt then add accessories. You will probably receive compliments on each item and then before you know it, you will have the complete look and no one will be the wiser. They'll just think you look great.

well you slowly change first your hair and make up, say if you goth liten up slowly start dressing not name brand but close, then get a hair cut, maybe add a high lights, then try and make friends with the group you want to be with, then comes the hard part one day go through your closet and take out all that you dont want, you can try and watch movies to inspire how you want to dress. Then replace your wordrobe, after all this if you walk the walk you have to talk the talk, get the attitude to go along with the new look.

Best of Luck,

Don't worry about what other people think. I've been called a "What Not to Wear Wannabe". I don't care. I have learned a great deal from the show and it has made a difference in my life.

i'm sure you won't be labled a poser, but why don't you just ease into a new style?like if you wear sporty clothes, try going a little more chic, without overdoing it

you shouldn't really care about only unless you really hate it.
lets face it people call each others posers.
you should probably start wearing clothes that are in style but still have your sense of style, try looking in magazines.

You should dress the way that makes you feel good about yourself. You shouldn't care what other people think about you. Theres nothing sexier than a person who feels confident in themself.
