It is a sign of the extreme lack of --- critical reasoning --- that exist as a result of our educational system and pathetic parenting.

some of them might be true...the better question is why do people by into the ridiculous theories, like how 9/11 was our governments plot. With JFK there were/are many significant questions about what really happened. And only the one crappy quality videotape. As far as the Da vinci code and Judas, well none of us were there so all the info we have is dogmatic in nature and can be interpreted in any way but actual fact.
As to why they get involved...I dont know everyone needs a hobby or something to believe in I guess...

Yes and no...it depends on theory and what the reason for the theory is. Like for instance I don't the believe in the conspiracy that the government has something to do with the disappearances that have happened in the Bermuda triangle. If there was more reason and logic to back it then I would but people are working off pure imagination there.

Some conspiracy theories may be funded by our enemy for obvious strategic reasons. For example the 9-11 conspiracy is probably funded by Islamic money, trying to blame the U.S. Govt. for the attacks by Islamo-fascists.
If you use simple logic, you'd realize how absurd this is: the WTC bldgs housed many foreign consulates and businesses, and many foreigners died in the attacks. If the U.S. were indeed behind 9-11, do you think the governments of these foreigners would not start hell with the USA by now????
Lamebrain liberals are usually slow to grasp the truth, slow to think outside the box, and thus are a threat to society because they help spread such types of garbage theories.

This is not going to sound too politically correct, but what the hell; it's my theory and I'm pretty sure there is some accuracy to it. It has always seemed to me that most conspiracy theorists are on the lower rungs of the socio-economic ladder. They are usually lower to lower middle class, and minimally educated. Therefore, there lives aren't usually ideal and so, rather than blame their own shortcomings, it is much easier to blame the Big Bad Oppressive Government Who Hides Things From Us and Can't Be Trusted!!
I think you would find that the higher the education and the financial income, the less percentage there are of conspiracy buffs.

I like the answer given by "No longer strugglin... student" It's always easier to buy into half-baked conspiracy theories than to sit down and do some work to get the facts for yourself. The moon-landing-hoax is a good example. One of the main 'facts' used to prove men never landed on the moon is the picture of the American flag shown fluttering on the lunar surface where no wind can exist. Lot of people are too lazy or ignorant to understand that the flag was made to look like it was waving by thin strips of plastic embedded in its field.

Ignorance - many people are dumb and do not bother to know the truth. Denial - they know it's the truth, but deny the truth for a variety of psychological reasons. Fear - people are afraid (due to ignorance), thus they easily believe all these conspiracy theories. Greed - some people not only believe, but spread these theories on the internet and other media to create fear so that they can benefit from it.

I think its because everyone wants to seem intelligent in the eyes of others so everyone has to blab about crap they know very little about. Just watch those silly entertainment news shows on any of the cable networks and you will see that everyone there has the answer yet the problem still remains. Dont listen to tall irish dumbasses who are only there for their own pockets. Mankind is very flawed and will probably never improve

People like to believe in things that make them feel good or make them wonder. Most people also just want to avoid the truth at all costs no matter how false the theory is.

I think many people buy into the conspiracy theories because their seems to be a little bit of truth behind them and what is told as the truth has something missing.
So basically it is a way to explain the unexplained.
