If you're looking for a good place to raise a family, the St Louis area is the only place to consider (surrounding areas in Illinois or Missouri, not necessarily the city proper). If you just want parties and urban social scene, go to a coast.

I think Portland, Maine.
St. Louis recently got the dubious distinction of the most shootings, or killings by guns.
You might want to check your reference section and search engines for statistics.

All cities have there good points and bad points. I suggest researching your top 10 city choices and compiling a list of activities most important to you.

It depends on what YOU want. If you want to live in an urban, crowdy, but close to shops, live in a big city (SF, NY, LA). SF, in my opinion, is better...but that's probably because SF is closer. It also depends on what kind of temperature you want to have. Humid and hot...Hawaii, Florida, cold...Lake Tahoe, Alaska (also have to get used to having the sun never set in the summer if you want to live in Alaska), moderate...California, etc.
Also, most people (in America) live within 10 miles of their hometown.
When you move in, you also might want to take a tour of the city/town. For example, if you live in Hillsborough, you might want to take a look at the Carolands. If you live in Chicago, Bill Gates' home. If you live in SF, missions, Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Pier 39, etc.

it depends, are you used to a big city? small town? back woods?
Las Vegas is nice (for 1/2 of the year) and it is currently the fastest growing city in the U.S.

Personally I like Colorado Springs. It's absolutely gorgeous and the weather is AMAZING. You get the best of both worlds.

Well, i personally havent been to either of them. Check out the backround of both of them, like the shops, resteraunts, theme parks, TORNADO or anything like that record. I would recommend LA, cause its cool. Good luck!
