Have you seen movie Matrix? In the first part when Morpheus is captured, Agent Smith says something like following,
"You humans are like virus. You go to one area, take up all the resources, and when there is nothing to do, you move to other area".
This is how exactly the biological viruses do. They infect one human, and then try to spread using this body. E.g. is HIV virus. This virus can spread only through the human blood, and by no other means.
Likewise, computer virus also spread by using the current computer. If current computer is not responding to this virus, then there spreading will stop. The virus programs goes into one computer, try to get adresses from outlook, or the mail server, and the spread themselves to these attendees.
There is nothing like computer bacteria, but there is somethink known as worm, which are considered as more deadlier than the viruses.

it follows the tradition of a computer glitch to be called a bug. the first computer was built in the 1940's. it was so big that it took up an entire floor of a building. it didn;t work. after searching for the loose wire, a moth was found. Hence the name "bug" for a computer not working.

A computer program is called a virus because it acts just like a biological virus. it self-replicates, and only infects systems that it is compatible with.. and usually makes your computer act sick or even kills it.

A computer virus is called a computer virus because a true, biological virus must replicate(copy) and execute itself, meaning that without guidence, a computer virus may spread itself wreaking havoc throughout cyberspace, much like a common cold can spread throughout an office buliding. Neither need any help and can duplicate; that is where the name origonates from.

Virus is generic. Small unseen, sneaks in and renders the system weak. Just like a real virus does to human bodies. And the people who generate them, should be charged with a felony!
