does it mean pick out the parts of speech for the sentance? like for every word label the part os speech it is?

That would be diagramming a sentence (and you'd have those little branching line things for the different parts of the sentence.)

It sounds more like you're labeling a sentence like, it's a declarative with the subject at the beginning. Maybe. I think you should add some more to your question--I'm not sure I understand from the context. I mean, I know what I'd do from a linguistic standpoint--but I'm guessing you're not in a linguistics class.
