Why don't they just figure out the max they're willing to pay, bid that, and be done with it. Do they not understand that Ebay's proxy bidding is designed so they don't HAVE to nervously watch the auction?

getting the lowest price possible doesn't explain it. If I want the lowest price possible, and I can decide what the highest price I'm willing to pay is, I can bid that price and either I won't win or I'll get it for what turned out to be the lowest price possible.

they dont have to watch it at all. there are programs that will snipe for them

people snipe, hoping they can get the "lowest" price possible on an auction and that no one else gets it before they do.
