Here are some ways to make the penny shiny and new.

First technuque uses a standard pencil eraser. Just start rubbing. The gunk will slowly be removed. Revealing a shiny new finish.

Or a electric erasers are also available at any drafting supply store.

Or use Ketchup, rub on penny, and use a toothbrush and scrub the surface lightly to work ketchup, into the tight areas.

Now rinse the penny, you will notice it is now dull and pink.

Now pour baking soda into small dish and add some water to make a thick paste.

Now rub it all over the penny with your fingers to bring back the shine.

Hope this works for you!

Apple sauce or peach sauce. I discovered this by accident. When my child was very young we would grind up their food. I ground up some peaches and a penny accidently fell in the sauce. I pulled the penny out and set it aside while I rinsed out the bowl and began the food prep over again. When I went back to the penny about 15 minutes later it looked brand new. I have been told applesauce will have the same effect.

You could always get some hot coke and leave it there for a couple days. It would just melt off the grime.
