Imagine you were chained by the ankle to a large pipe, and you had a cheap saw, could you saw your foot (or part of it) off to escape?
If there was a concrete toilet lid beside you could you use that to crush your foot to get it out the shackle?
Could you cope with the pain, shock and blood loss to escape?

Remember if you chose not to saw your foot off, you would die a very slow and unpleasant death from hunger/dehydration.

I personally could not take the pain of cutting off my own foot, or any other body part. I think at that point, I would probably just let myself die. The pain and trauma would be too great and I would not want to live with that memory or thoughts about what had happened to me for the rest of my life. No, I know I could not cope with the pain or shock of the whole incident. There probably are people who would be able to survive from such an experience, but I am definitely not one of those people. Iwould also hope that if I did allow myself to die, I would die quickly and get it over with.

Yes I would cut off my foot to escape because I could live with knowing I only have one foot. I figure the pain would numb itself after a while like when you get a tattoo.

No, I would just die. I wouldn't even fight it, I wouldn't be talking to the guy in the tub or screaming bloody murder, I wouldn't cut out the key from the belly. I'd just roll over and take a nap until it was all over.

i think no one here could seriously answer that question b/c none of us have ever been in that situation and we don't really kno how we would react in that situation, even tho we think we know what we'd do, u would be surprised at how many ppl have found themselves doing things so completely out of their norm when faced with life or death sitations. the guy in saw had a wife and daughter he wanted to protect so he was in a situation where he wanted to cut off that foot to save them. but someone else were in that situation, u hafta take into account what they would be risking or gaining by cutting said foot off. in my personal opinion, i don't think i could muster the strength or courage to saw off my own foot, but then again i've never been in that situation b4 so i'd can't really know exactly how i'd react, but i hope i never hafta find out!! lol!

I think it kinda depends...what will hurt worse cutting my foot off or dying? Sometimes they're gonna die in a really quick way that's painless...well...I guess if you really want to live...
