1) So far it is not known how many diseases, such as cancer, form in the body. So, as far as we know, only luck prevents you fomr getting many diseases.

2) Many health problems are inherited through genetics. Maybe your parents give you an illness that runs in the family, maybe they don't. You have no control over it.

3) I can't think of a third one, I hope the other 2 helped.

This is the nature vs environment debate. It has been proven that we are predisposed to certain illnesses and behaviors. Environment also affects us.

The debate is whether we have a choice. For example, some people (like my family) are genetically predisposed to alcoholism/addictions. Well, needless to say there are a lot of alcoholics, addicts, and gamblers in my family.

Well, is there a choice in these behaviors that an affect one's health? I believe there is a choice. I did a bit of drinking in my youth. One day I did something drunk, that I NEVER would have done sober, and there were several witnesses. I didn't remember a thing! That scared me and I stopped drinking soon after.

My father, brother and nephew (brother's son) all have followed the same handed-down pattern of drinking to excess several times a week. None of them have ever tried to quite.

I do have two uncles who quit drinking years ago, but both gamble everything they own away.

Do some searches to find articles on genetic predisposition to illness. That will help you great deal.

You really can't chose to be healthy. Sometimes you can, like eating wisely, but, you really can't chose to be healthy. You can try all you can to prevent cancer, or a disease, but it is just as likely that you will get that disease as it would be if you didn't try all you could to prevent it. The fact that you chose to be healthy, and that you have to be lucky, really isn't a fact. It is a personal opinion.

Sometimes you can chose sometimes you can't, like you can eat good foods and try to stay away from bad food but sometimes your body is too weak, like you can easily get sick with a cold or something like that. and some people can't control their weight cause I remember from somewhere that some people have to take these medications to be able to be stable, even if they don't eat much they still gain a lot of weight if they don't take that medicine.
