I am exactly like you...they scare me to death! I have finally found someone who can draw blood with only 1 poke thankfully, this really helps. I usually hold my husbands hand, look away and ask them to use a butterfly needle(very small). I hope this helps you and I wish you good luck!

I was scared to death of needles also. But now I have had two girls and a boy on the way. I was very scared at first. well lets just say, I did my fair share of actually crying and having to have someone hold me down. But with my second child, I had to have this done with her there, and I just could not freek out in front of her. She watched and I just shut my eyes really hard, and clenched my teeth, I think a tear came out, but I did not make a scene. It was horrible, but I got over it. I am now 28 weeks pregnant, and well it is not as bad as it was. They only draw blood about 3 times I think, and the noodle is only in you for like 5 seconds. I would siggest that if you are very scared and want to learn how to be brave, you invite a young one to go with you, like a nephew or niece. or someone. This forced me to be strong. good luck, and it will all be worth it in a short 40 weeks.
oh one more thing. I actually think the small finger poke hurts worse now. I hate that. You know it is comming, but it still hurts and makes you jump. That never goes away. (for me anyway.) good luck

Im sorry. Im the same way and I have been to Phlebotomy school(which is where you learn to take blood, etc) and I was stuck with a needle a million times for practice and Im still scared to death of them. Im pregnant for the 4th time now and had my blood taken several times already. Its scary. There is not much you can do except to look away and not think about it.

The way I got over being scared of needles was because when your pregnant they take alot of blood from you, and I just had to get use to it. Just think of nice things when you go and get your blood taken it usually helps.

As someone who was scared of needles before my pregnancy, I just got used to it. The first time or 2 was bad but after that its no big deal. And I used to have to be held down to get shots, at the age of like 18 or 19.

I'm very much afraid of needles myself and am currently 36 weeks. Believe me, you're going to have to get used to them. Try not to look when you get your bloodwork done -- seeing the blood is normally the worst part of the experience, anyway. Other than that, you just have to accept the fact that you're going to be poked and pricked quite frequently for the tests and labor/delivery.

i am the same way. if i see them with the needle i start to feel lightheaded and dizzy. i cannot watch them, especially with drawing blood. i think that bothers me more. i make it a point not to look, to think about something else and squeeze either the chair or my husbands hand if he is there. try closing your eyes and taking deep breaths.
