I heard that as talented as Ringo was, there is a rumor that his playing was recorded by a session musician in New York.

Of course he did. The reason he was asked to join the band was because he was one of the most sought after drummers in London or Liverpool at the time. There have been rumours that McCartney would redo drum parts after the rest of the band had left the studio, but there isn't anything to support that. I would think that if Paul or anyone else wasn't pleased with with a drum track, they would just ask Ringo to redo it, because replacing a fellow bandmembers track with your own playing is a very disrespectful and unprofessional thing to do. Granted, Ringo was never as flashy as Keith Moon or Mitch Mitchell, but he was (and still is) a top-notch drummer all the same. Besides, the flashier style wouldn't have suited the Beatles music that well, anyway, in my opinion, since it was not as agressive as the Who or Hendrix. I think Ringo did a great job in playing what was appropriate for the songs and that the idea that he wasn't a very good drummer is just silly and without merit. Paul must feel the same way because he still has him play on some of his stuff to this day, even though he could have anyone in the world do it. So that should say something about his talent.

that's a lie.

he was the best drummer for the beatles. all the beatles said so.

what made him great was he had an innate sense of rhythm, and he could repeat perfect beat time after time after time.

Don't believe it for one second, but would love to know where did you hear this? Which albums?
