I left my laptop shut and was out of my room all day and came back in at about 8 pm and i opened my laptop to find that there was water in it (my roommate swears he didnt spill water on it). I left it turned off and left it shut. After a few days it seemed to go back to normal, but now i can not get my D Drive to work. Is there anyway to get the drive to work again or is it completely gone?

*EDIT*
My D drive is a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive

I am assuming that your D drive is a CD or DVD drive and not a hard disk partition. Water usually does little damage to a computer if it is not switched on and you let it dry fully. If disks in the drive spin up but cant be read then you might just need to clean the lens, if not the drive is probably dead and needs to be replaced.

Gee, it is hard to tell. I suspect that enough moisture got into the thing to either cause the drive to short out eventually or fried the contact only on that circuit. It is a wonder that it didn't completely fry the machine.
As far as roommate, I do not know how water could have collected within it on its own. I have run my machines in summer heat and high humidity and never had any moisture problems.
It may be worth having repair shop in a high street look at it, if you can afford it. They will probably not charge for the looking if you let them put in a new drive as needed.
If a student like I am, not having the laptop working fully can be a real handicap.
So, I am with you in this. Best of luck.

I can only guess what your D drive is, you should add information to your question to make this easier to troubleshoot.

IF your D drive is your CD or DVD rom - very possibly it could be ruined. Do you still see the drive in the operating system? (windows explorer for instance?) If not, when you boot the system, enter the setup/bios and see if you see it there.

A lop of laptops have 'modular' cdrom/dvd bays. The drives come out very easily. If you have access to another cdrom drive - try just swapping it out and see if that fixes your problem. Some local stores sell replacement drives. Or you can pick one up on ebay for fairly cheap usually. (obviously you'd want to try to test it before buying if at all possible)

If your D drive was something else - post more info.

You may want to call up the Geek Squad. They can fix it, but it will cost a little $$. You can also purchase a new drive on Ebay or something like it.

do no longer take lots tension. first of all in simple terms restart the comuter and notice if it exhibits the force now. If it nevertheless would not exhibits it i could desire to be conscious of which OS are you utilising and a few extra counsel related to the no longer hassle-free disk. yet i think of restarting will artwork. particularly situations OS would not boot up top and could no longer load the drivers corresponding to particular gadgets through which it happens.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
