I try so hard in school, and I have never gotten straight As. High school (especially mine) is rather difficult and I am the kind of person that really needs to study to do well. I get GPAs like 3.7 and 3.4...but I want to get a good job when I grow up and I want to go to a good college. I know I am about average, but can I still find a sucessful job if I'm not perfect??

When you are out of school completely, whether you got straight A's does not matter. Depending on the college you apply to depends on whether or not they will look at your grades. You can still find a successful job and not be perfect.

I think you may be underestimating yourself. If what you say is true and you have about a GPA of 3.55. That is perfectly fine. In fact, it is somewhere between a B+/A- in college. It will also get you on the honor roll. You are not average by any means! I think you just need more self-confidence. It is true that GPA is one of the primary factors (with the other being entrance exams) of being admitted to college..but for you I think it is fine.

What I would suggest doing is trying to take challenging courses if you have not already. Example, AP and Honors Course really test you and prospective colleges will also take into account the difficulty level of your coursework. In fact, several colleges give you an extra point in your GPA if you do well in them. For example, if you get a B in AP Calculus...you get a bonus point since it is a harder course or equivalent to an A or 4 points. If you got an A in that same course it would hypothetically be 5 points. So higher difficulty, higher reward. If you are already taking harder courses..than your real GPA when applying to colleges will be higher than 3.55. For example, when I was in high school. My GPA was like 3.69, but with all the honor courses, it was over 4.0

Good luck..and have confidence in yourself! I am sure you have what it takes to get in a good school. You are too much of a perfectionist.

I am a sophmore, 10th grade, and i go to a very challenging high school. My overall average is 96, im not sure what that translates to when it comes to 1-4. I have 4 ap courses, out of 8 classes. All i do is watch tv, never study, and i have great photographic memory. I can also remember words spoken, of a lenght near 5 minutes. I never try, but i can get 75 average, and im sure i can get into a decent college. Dont worry about a job in highschool, unless its secretarial. But in college, and a job after that, what matters is experience. It looks good to have a nice resume.

Your GPA really only matters when you go for your first job because it's one of the only things someone has to judge you by. After that, what matters is what you did at your previous employers, your skills, and how personable you are.

Edit: I should mention that I'm talking about college GPA here.

The grading system is so outdated it shocks me public schools still use such a system!

Do not worry about it, learn the way you learn. Stress does not help the leaning process, only hinders it. Specially when one is stressing over good grades.

Then if teachers and/or administration do not like your personality or whatever they can make it difficult for a kid to get A's.

A good job.....I am assuming one that makes good money? I no a guy who sold his company for mucho $$$ and he never graduated school and has problems reading.....

At my school, a 3.5 average is enough to get into National Junior Honor Soceity. I'm sure you are doing fine.

Not really important at all. Unless you want to go to a top college. Then you better have 4.0, great SATs, and a whole lot of volunteer hours.

ur grades are good, i suggest going to community college to do general education because it is cheaper and u will be pretty much taking the same classes if u go to a university. hopefully by the time you finish your general ed. you will know what major you want to pursue and transfer to a university that offers it. Your grades are good keep it up.

a 3.5 will get you into a good school. Honestly later on ib life it matters more about college and how well you do there. Good luck :)

You need both good grades, leadership experience, and stellar test scores.
