so should blacks be compensated for the wrong that was done to their ancestors during slavery?

I cannot be responsible for my ancestors' decisions. I can, however, be responsible for myself and make sure that I don't make the same mistakes. Of course, blacks have rights, but they don't have any more right to monetary compensation than the Jewish or Irish who suffered racism in a different context. Slavery is wrong. Period. Sadly, slavery is as old as history itself, but that should only mean that we should always fight against it.

They have all the constitutional rights as all Americans and legal citizens of the US.

I do believe that anyone that can prove they were in-slaved, as those of the 1800's were, should be compensated for the wrong done to them. Many races have had negative things done to their ancestors. The black American doesn't hold the patent on slavery and/or abuse to their ancestors. It was wrong in all ways, but it was abolished well over 100 years ago and need to be put to rest.

If slavery is such a major issue, than why doesn't it get the needed attention from the so-called Black leaders of the world to stop it from happening today in many countries of Africa.

Of course black folks have rights, this aint the 60's.

And no, there is zero reason why I should pay money for reperations for activities that happened 400 years ago. My family has only been here for 200 years and has NEVER owned a slave. why should I pay.

conversely, what exactly do you think would be the effect if every black person in America were sent a check for $100k? Just think about it.

However, I would be in favor of reperations if they would be paid for by the ancestors of the West African warlords that originally sold the slaves in the first place.

i think the reparations for descendants of slave is a great idea. you see, afterwards, no black could use the slavery history as an excuse to commit crimes, as some do. however, not all blacks came to north America as slaves. there were free people too. so, how would you know who is a descendant? and who would pay? the Arabs were heavily involved as were native Africans. slavery still exists in that part of the world.

Blacks have rights, but anyone that could have been "directly" affected by the wrongs of the past (mainly slavery) are long gone and their dependents should not be eligible.
