$47.17...$50 divided by 106 (100% + 6%), multiply by 100 (or move decimal two places to the right).

Ok.... what you have is 100% of the original bill, plus 6% of that number. So that is 106% of the original bill, right?

1.06 * X = 50 (Now solve for X)

X = 50/1.06
X= 47.17 (And that is your answer.)

Divide by 1.06
x = $37.17
