Hi, I've been playing guitar for a little more than a year and I'd like to learn how to play metal and finger work. Does anybody have any tips?

Well, Like Dimebag Darrell said, just play it agressive and itll sound bad###.Metal has a lot of variety so I cant really say"this is how to play metal".I can give you a few tips on finger workouts though.

To get your fingers stronger and faster, do a consistant hammer on/pull off with your first and second fingers, then your first and third, then first and fourth. Then try doing different combinations of your other fingers, and time yourself.Youll want to really push how long you can do them while keeping the sound strong and consistant.
I also almost always tell everyone not to forget to do the simple 1234 exercise-line your fingers up with the first four frets, and just alternate pick the notes going down the frets 1-2-3-4 then move to the next string, up and down.Once you get that at a good speed, go backwards.Get that to a good speed, start skipping strings. It builds muscle and helps accuracy(specially when you start skipping strings).
A really hard technique is sweep picking, but even practicing it will get your fingers moving.look at my mini tab here

what youll want to do is drag the pick across the strings downward, like your strumming, but instead of every note ringing out you stop them before the next note sounds by rasing your finger slightly. Then go back up the pattern till your back at the fifth fret on the A string. But this is really hard to learn. To get it at a good speed and be able to switch patterns takes a lot of time.

Besides that Id check out some scales, you can find em everywhere online.Maybe get yourself some lessons from a store near you.

Buy a guitar magazine and do all the lessons inside. All of em, even if they dont involve metal. You can always use a new technique.

Assuming you've got recordings of the stuff you want to learn, my advice would be to pick up an Akai riff-o-matic on ebay. You can usually graab one for $20-40. With this, you can slow down portions of songs to 2/3 or even 1/2 speed while maintaining original pitch in order to break down solos or intricate finger picking parts, making it easier and faster to learn by ear, if that's how you prefer to learn. The reason I suggested the akai is that they are generally cheaper than some of the newer phrase samplers on the market, yet they perform the same function. In addition, I would still recommend searching for sheet music (Ebay) or online instruction as well.

im a intermediate guitar participant and that i detect guitar hero video games harder than enjoying the actual guitar. for one, you have six strings on a guitar, the place because of the fact the recreation has 5 buttons. the recreation easily has you shifting your finger extra once you play single notes than easily enjoying actual guitar. the place a word on a actual guitar would have you ever only fretting a decrease or higer string. the recreation makes you be bothered a button that extra. i like enjoying chords on the recreation. in that, it does sense like your easily enjoying chords. yet another factor is which you dont somewhat would desire to seem at a exhibit screen while enjoying a actual guitar. so which you do % extra hand eye cordination to play the recreation. the songs interior the recreation are set up quite stable. its no longer basically random button presses, the recreation does have repeatable kinds. its defintely exciting. its only extra user-friendly to play actual guitar.
