Where can I find reliable information about the online investing community? Numbers, demographics, trends, anything...

I mean the people who invest and trade online. I just need to know about the industry itself.

Barrons publishes a great article on the online brokers every year. This years was from March 6th. That's one source.

Unfortunately, I don't recall seeing too much else other than what I've seen in the news.

I don't know if anyone has precise information as to the size of the online investing community.
However, finance.yahoo.com and finance.google.com are the best places to start researching and getting a feel for online investing.
If you decide to attempt investing online but would like to use "fake" money first, www.investopedia.com has great resources.
If it helps, there are about 8,000 people in the investing game on investopedia.com I am in, so the online investing community is huge.

Define the online investing community...

I wouldn't worry about other investors as much as getting good stats on the companies you're investing in.

finance.yahoo.com is good.
