Well yes technically you will be using 512MB of RAM, it may say only 256, but you are using 512MB. If you put two cards with different amounts of RAM, then the extra RAM on the card with more will be disabled.

If you already have one 7600GT and are looking to add another as an upgrade, then go ahead and do it, it will be worth the money. However if you are looking to buy two and then put them in SLI, you would be better off spending that money in one card, it will outperform two 7600 in SLI.

no, it just shares 2 sets of 256 MB of video RAM both of which are independent to it's own gpu. I have two 7800GT's in SLI and both are 256 MB but it still counts it as 256. I'm really using a total of 512MB of vid RAM but it's 256 on each so it really only counts it as 256 MB. What SLI really does is share the processing power between the 2 gpu's. Don't worry, if you are really considering it go for it, it's really nice.

edit: If you want to play a game like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, one of the highest quality options are not even available unless you have true 512MB of RAM. This happens with a few other games as well. So even though I truly do have enough power to play on full settings for that game I can't even attempt it.
