Hey guys, I'm trying to help a social worker friend out by finding a really good movie that involves teens that have dealt with problems and were able to bounce back from them. You guys have any ideas? She wants to show the movie to some young girls (12 to 15 year olds) in her counciling group. Any suggestions (old or new) would be a big help.

Looks like Thirteen is the favorite. Funny, I've never seen or heard of it.

Thirteen is really good, but i might be a bit long. I thought it was very good. Also, you could tell your friend to tell the group that the movie was written by a thirteen year old, and that could be even more inspiration for the young girls ! =)

My older sister just got her master for social work, and she does that kind of stuff all the time and she said that THIRTEEN would be perfect!

Where the Day Takes You

It is about runaway teenagers that try to survive on the streets of Los Angeles.

Great movie. It has a lot of big name actors in it before they became famous.

A lot of these movies above are so good but also too explicit for 12-year-olds.

An alternative might be "The Breakfast Club" which talks about shattering stereotypes of "what you are" at school and should come in a tame rating. I know a lot of counsellors use this movie.

Thirteen is tops for what you don't want to know your baby is doing, Kids was very important as far as unprotected sex, and Girl Interrupted for those with maybe some mental problems such as anorexia and extreme moods.
