Ariel, John, Melinda, and Zach are playing a game similar to go fish. each player has 7 cards. 2 cards must have a certain relationship in order to make a pair. Each card can be used in only 1 pair per person. according to this rule, ariel has 3 pairs, john has 2, but melinda doesn't have any.

the hint said to find the pattern try all of the operations.

also: please explain how you got your answer and the percentage you think your answer is correct...

The question is to figure out the rule being used to make pairs in eaach person's hand, and how many pairs does Zach have?

I guess I don't see what is so hard about this question. The matching could be on number.

Ariel might have A, A, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4
John might have 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 9
Melinda might have 10, J, Q, K, 7, 8, 9

Am I missing something? And why don't we have information about Zach's pairs?
