My best advice to you would be to get singing lessons. They can teach teach you all kinds of voice and breathing techniques to improve the quality of your singing. They can be a bit pricey, but they're worth it in the long run. Try looking on the internet for someone offering lessons in your area.
Also, embrace your alto voice!! Trying to sing higher will put strain on your singing. Sing songs that are made for alto's and you will sound better than you ever thought you could!
A few quick tips are:
Never drink milk or fruit juices before a performance. They coat your throat in mucus and make your voice sond odd
Mantain good posture when you sing.
You DON'T have to smile when you sing. Often it just makes singing all the more akward.

BEST OF LUCK!!

If you can't find or get singing lessons from a vocal teacher (or by being in a choir) then these books will help you get started. They have good info, exercises and examples on audio CD. They will guide you through care of your voice, increasing range and different singing styles (pop, country, jazz, etc.) plus lots of other musical need-to-know.

Singing for Dummies by Pamelia S. Phillips (Wylie - pub.)
The Complete Idiots Guide to Singing by Phyllis Fulford/Michael Miller. (Penguin - pub.)
Set Your Voice Free by Roger Love. (Little,Brown - pub.)

Good Luck.

You can ask your parents to find you a singing teacher.
If not, join the school choir. They could teach you a thing or two.

Honestly, if you're an alto, there's not much you can do to change into a soprano. Unless you try different songs or different genres that are more suitable for your range.

Good luck!

Yes, of course you can!
You have to learn how to breath and to control your breathing using your respiratory diaphragm muscle. Also, you must learn not to use your throat for emission of voice but your mouth and nose.
I suggest that you take some course in singing or that you buy some DVD that teaches how to improve your voice.
I love to sing in a choir and I used to be very bad! Our choir regent gave us some lessons. And now it is wonderful. Sometimes I don´nt believe that it is me singing.
If you really want to be a singer it is worth the work and it is fun to learn how to sing!
