i just replaced the plugs on my 2k1 max with NGK iridium IX. the factory recommended interval on tune is 100k. so should i drive 100k on the plugs or replace them on evry after 30k 40k or 50k? i believe 100k is too much on plugs, what do you say? thanks.

With the iridium spark plugs, 100,000 miles won't be a problem. The copper core plugs are good for approx 30,000 miles. The single Platinums are good for 60-70,000 miles. The double plats are good for 100-110,000 and the iridium is good for a least that.

It is possible to get bad wire or bad spark plugs or the wrong spark plugs. It is not that common through, it is more common to get the wrong spark plugs or mix up the spark plug wires. But you can not miss wire just one spark plug wire, and with the coil packs per cylinder one would really have to work to miss wire it. So I am assuming that you have a Ford Explorer with a rotary distributor, and either a 6 or 8 cylinder engine. Tell your husband the problem and have him recheck his work. Get out your owners manual and make sure you have the right spark plug for your vehicle. Verify that the spark plugs are proper and securely fitted, that the spark plug wires are securely fitted, and that the wires are wired to the right plug. depending on what year of ford you have this should be very easy to do but you will have to know the firing order. Get a repair manual from the library or look it up via the Internet normally the firing order will have a diagram that show how the spark plug wire run. If all seems in order or this is beyond our ability then visit a reputable garage or ford dealership. You do not want to drive if avoidable, you may cause more severe damage. Best of Luck

What I would suggest is take the spark plugs out every 40 k just to clean them, this will also keep the threading loose. I have seen too many people not change their plugs and leave them in the car for up to or over 100 k. What this does is only to cause problems when trying to extract the plugs, they basically weld themselves into the spark plug wells because of dirt and dirty fluids.

It depends. If I were you I would go 50k then replace them again. Most new cars do say 100k before changing them. My RSX says 110k. I currently have 45k so I am gonna let it go as long as my car is running fine. I will probably change them at 90k-100k.

I follow whatever the manufacturer says. In my old Beretta it recommended them done at 100k and I waited until 120k. The mechanic said they looked smooth and well worn however not bad. They weren't fouled or anything. I guess it depends on your motor.

I would change them at least every 50k. Platinum plugs last longer.

It's really what you feel comfortable with. You can always ck. them at 30,40,50K and see how they look.

I'll pull mine at intervals to make sure the gap is still correct and they look clean.

100k is in "ideal conditions", meaning no dust, no dirt, etc., it's VERY optimistic
