Atheists and agnostics do not belong to a religion as stated by one answer, but nor did the question say they did.
Religion is a great way to control people. The concept of a higher being is illogical, unscientific and irrational, yet people are driven through fear and paronoia to believe.
An example. Those pilots flew into the twin towers doing God's work. Bush is on record as saying he invaded Afghanistan and Iraq because he was doing God's work. Let me see - was God just having an off day, do you think? Gave confusing instructions, do you think? You see that is the other "benefit" of religion - no matter what people do, they can claim it was God's work. They can kill, maime, slaughter, rape pillage - all in the name of religion.
Now, you ask about IQ - would people with a high IQ follow a myth that has so much evidence stacked against it over all the years of the human race?

First of all, atheism and angosticism (yes, it's a word lol) ARE religions.
I read that religion and IQ are negatively correlated meaning the higher priority religion is to a certain person, the lower their IQ is, generally. You can't say that about every person of course.
The problem with studying a person's religion and their IQ is the fact that in America, not that many people actually fit the description of being "religious." People may say they're a Christian or a Buddhist or whatever, but they may not actually practice it as much as it would take to be defined as being "religious."
I couldn't find anything regarding certain religions and their average IQ, but I hope this has helped anyway!

Having examine all the solutions right here, i encourage to variety along with your prognosis of them. i haven't seen a single "impolite" answer. A minority have shown slender-mindedness, some have shown deep-seated anger, some have been one-sided of their observations. yet I even have felt that everyone replied courteously in spite of their anger. As a Christian, i'm saddened by potential of a few of that anger obtainable. specific, human beings claiming to be Christians have been impolite and hateful of their responses. i've got observed that at circumstances. i'm afraid those don't have numerous an thought of what Christianity is all approximately. some human beings come that way from the different component as properly. there is fanaticism on the area of a few non secular human beings, and fanaticism on the area of a few atheists. In the two situations, it somewhat is through a loss of clever humility. in spite of everything, I savour your remark. EDIT: I take it lower back, there is one impolite answer. in certainty it would be a reportable one, yet i'm no longer a reporter by potential of nature. I only observed a soccer question the place somebody replied that the questioner replaced right into a "fool" for helping a particular group, so i assume faith does not have the monopoly on rudeness!

IQ scores are based on tests created by man.
Those men are a member of a specific culture.
Different tests give varied scores to the same
cultural groupings.
Different cultural groupings get varied scores
to the same test.
I am going to suggest that most tests created
by man will favor those who come from the
same culture as the author of the test.
If tests written by men from all over the world
were given to people all over the world, I think
that if you pick any religion and then find a
cultural group in which that religion
is dominant and look at the global scores by
religion from the test authored from the same
cultural group you would find that that religion
has the highest IQ.
All things being equal I think that would be true,
but all things are not equal, not by a long shot.
The third world would get screwed.
Any religious population with most members
in highly educated cultures would score higher.
The moral of this story is that if you come
from an affluent highly educated society
and you test yourself...
To apply empirical methods to groups that
historically reject them is pointless.

There is a study conducted many years ago suggesting the Ashkenazi Jews were among the people with very high IQs but i think it has nothing to do with their religion. It might be more related to their genes.Ancient Islamic schollars(Avicenna,Aviross) are also believe to have very high IQs but then again it was concluded that it might had to do either with their genes, educational bacground or perhaps as a result of dissiplined that they've practice as a Muslim.

I work in a Biology Department at a large University. I am surrounded by individuals who are both religious and intelligent. I have also read studies that show that if you are active in religion throughout your college education you rank yourself as having a higher level of belief than those who did not attend college, but if your religious convictions did not continue through your college education you are of a weaker faith in your chosen religion. In other words, their is IQ variation in all things including religion.

Hmmm... christians believe in the absurd dreams of a bunch of arab farmers 2000 years ago. I'm guessing they're not going to win the IQ contest.

Trying to find a correlation between faith and IQ is just as pointless and divisive as trying to find a correlation between race and IQ.

There is not enough evidence to place a correlation between IQ's and religions. Just because you have a diffrent prefrence in bliefs does not mean your smarter.
