He's nervous because this will be his first time playing baseball (On a school team) and does not know what position to sign up for. I know the coach's will put him in the position that they think will fit him best but, if he had a choice what should be try for.... here are some details of him.

He's 5'3. In 9th Grade
Pretty Fast but low on stamina
He can throw 60 feet, but is probably 60% accurate at times.
He loves getting hurt (As in diving or falling down)
I'm not sure how strong he is at the plate but he does know what balls he has to hit and not to hit.
He has a girlfriend that cheers him on :D
Arm strength.... i'd say around 20-32 MPH (I know its not really fast but...) and 40 is probably the max i've read on the speed meter.

Any ideas?

From the way you describe your cousin, I would have to say that either 2nd base or 1st base. You need to be able to cover a lot of ground in the outfield, and you must be accurate on throws to play the infield, especially Short & 3rd. 2nd has the shortest throw, and 1st usually doesn't have to throw much at all.

If he can hit the ball well, I would say 1st or 2nd. He is not really the right size for a 1st baseman, but if he grows about a foot, he could be perfect. I would tell him 2nd or 1st...but his size (right now) says 2nd base.

If you really want to help him take him out to play catch work on his arm strength and take him to batting cages or throw bp yourself. Do this 2-3 times a week wherever he plays he has to get more accurate on his throws. Just work with him if he is a good hitter there is a spot for him. Do about 50 swings 2-3 times a week and about 50-60 long tosses 60 feet or so and have him air it out from 100 or more feet maybe 10 times again do this 2-3 times a week Good Luck also work some on grounders you can never take enough ground ball practice, well that's a lie but practice on fielding also

Sounds like a good kid but our team went to states for the 14-15 Babe Ruth Tournament (8th and 9th graders) and everybody could throw at least 55 mph and 200 ft. they could run a 5.0 to first base, could play the entire game and could hit it in a general direction. Everybody was able to dive and even the kids who didn't make it could fall down. Most of these kids are going to have trouble making a JV team for a AAA high school team. But he sounds like he would be a good secondbasemen. not a very far distance to throw, anybody can play there and the only good hitting second basemen is Marcus Giles who is in the pros.

I'll be as positive as I can. Ge him some private lessons. It could be a long year. Boys that are still going out for baseball in high school are pretty good and have probably been playing some select baseball for several years now. Outfield would probably be the position. But make sure he can catch the easy fly ball!!

And in baseball John Lannan replaced into on my college baseball team college then have been given drafted to the Nationals. a great number of alternative pals went to great D1 faculties and or had very short stints in professional activities, yet those 3 have been the main modern-day. additionally had a baby from my HS win a gold medal interior the Olympics for wrestling.

wow..those are some pretty poor stats man. sounds like he could be a DH. maybe he could play shortstop. other then that he should be a back-up catcher. tell him to work on his game and he'll get better. the more he works on it the better he'll be. if he has talent he can play any position. hes young, so i'm not knocking his effort, but maybe you should give him a little more credit.
