They are both princesses, however, the eldest princess, is called the princess royale but only if her Mum is the Queen or Dad is King. This is currently held by Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II. (as the Queen is, well the queen, she is not eligible) Princess Royal is a style customarily (but not automatically) awarded by a British monarch to his or her eldest daughter. The style is held for life, so a princess cannot be given the style during the lifetime of another Princess Royal. As Prince Charles, has no daughters, there will not be another Princess Royale if and until Prince William takes the throne and if he has any daughters.

Queen Victoria and Edward VII both had several daughters and all were called princess. Most married peers or European kings and were subsequently known as 'HRH the Duchess of Fife' or 'HRH the Duchess of Argyll' or whatever. The sovereign's sons are normally made dukes but princesses are not. Phantomlimb is generally right although royal is without an 'e'.

There can be many princes and princesses. There can only be one king or queen.

Then the eldest takes the throne, unless it is a patriarchal society, and then their brother, even if he's 20 years younger, would take the throne. Often in history, a younger sister would poison or murder or (or have murdered) her older sister, so that she could gain the throne.
