Pretty tough as success can be deemed in financial terms or just winning titles.

If you consider both club success in money and titles the following will help;

Richest Clubs - Real Madrid - 186.2m - Man U - 166.4m - AC Milan - 158.0m (Liverpool 122.4m)

Most successful in Champions League - Real Madrid has 9 wins - AC Milan has 6 wins - Liverpool 5 wins....

UEAF Cup - Kind of wierd as until 1971/72 UEFA didn't really exisit as it was the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and was only for teams FROM cities staging trade fairs. BUT since 1971/72 - Liverpool 3 (72/73, 75/76, 00/01), Internazionale FC 3 (90/91, 93/94, 97/98). Juventus 3 (76/77 ,89/90, 92/93), Real Madrid 2 (84/85 & 85/86) The obly team with back to back wins.

FA Cup - (not terribly fair as it is an English Clubs only tourney) - Man U has 11 wins in 17 Finals Appearances - Arsenal 10 in 17 - Spurs have 8 wins in 9 finals!(good record)...Liverpool 7 in 13....

SO overall (fairly excluding the FA cup) You would have to say Real Madrid are the worlds most successful team to date...

Pretty tough though as their are so many teams out there that might not flourish as well in the Premiership and vice versa..

Better question is who is the most successful team in the history of English Football... :-)

Glasgow Rangers has won the most trophies in club football. It's just that the trophies are not really seen as 'important'.

You need to define success. Are we talking as a business or in goals scored / cups won?

Its a bit sad that we have to make that definition about a sport.
