Sure thing sweetie! It's very normal. As long as you aren't spotting or having any cramps or pain... I wouldn't worry.
They are so tiny tiny at 5 weeks it canbe hard to pick up the heart beat. My first pregnancy I didn't hear the heart beat til I was at 11 weeks. (she's 12 now)
Good Luck!

YES!! I thought I was miscarrying @ 5w2d, I was spotting and everything, went to the ER they pretty much made me feel like things didn't look good @ all, no h/b wouldn't even let me see the ultrasound, ect. I got my levels checked that day and again 3days later and they were doubling like they should, at my ultrasound 8w4d I found out I was actually only 7w4d, I o'd late and the baby is prefectly healthy! I'm now 11 wks. I got a new Dr. and he explained to me how normal it is to not even see a h/b at 6w. I think he said the baby is 21 days old before it starts beating & unless they are doing a Trans-Vag Ultrasound it's hard to pick it up early on.

My wife and I just had a child. She also miscarried six months earlier after unltrasounds, etc. @ 5 weeks said everything was a-ok. Having seen the early stages twice with vasty different outcomes, it seems to me pregnancy is extremely fragile and unpredictable until 10 weeks or so. I'd say to take a deep breath and try to relax--as much as that's possible--for a few more weeks.

Hi, I thought this site might help. It seems to relax my fears on almost everything. From what is happening to the baby and the mother to free child birth links. I don't know what I would have done with out it.

In week 5
http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancycalendar/l/blweek5.htm
It says The heart will begin to beat this week! This means that sometime during the week it should start. also when it starts it's really faint.
Good luck. I look forward to seeing your next question which means everything was fine. :)

the heart isn't developed enough to beat until the fifth week and it could vary as far as which day it starts to beat (generally it is day 22). If your dates are even the slightest bit off (by a day or 2) it could affect it, also, the baby is so small, it can be difficult to see at that early ultrasound.

Read everything you can get your hands on. The best book is "What to Expect when you're Expecting". Don't go into this blindly nor rely on a monthly quick conversation with your doctor. Call the doc or the nurse anytime you have a question-- that's what is expected of them. If they balk, they're not doing their job.

The heartbeat is not normally detectable until 6 weeks honey, stop worrying and you will find that your baby is fine!

Yep....I was about that early too. And 8 months later I had a healthy little boy. Relax, if something was wrong then you would know. So for now just kick back and relax...and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy :)
Best wishes :)
