As long as you have a healthy diet and exercise program, your baby should be fine. I don't take prenatals either because they cause nausea and vomiting for me. The folic acid is good and, if you can, take iron pills also. If the iron pills make you sick, just eat foods with high iron content, combined with acidic foods, which help your body to absorb the iron. I know you've heard this before, but make sure you stay hydrated. Pure water makes me nauseaus also, so I drink energy drinks or clear juices. Calcium is important, so if you don't like milk, you can eat foods with cheese, yogurt, or even some orange juices add calcium to the juice. Just keep yourself healthy and your baby will be fine. Congratulations and good luck!

Why can't you take a prenatal vitamin? Do they make you sick? If so, ask your doc to change your prescription until you find one that you can take.
If you cannot take any prenatal vitamin, take a multivitamin with a folic acid supplement. That's what my doc recommended while we were trying to conceive. If you don't like milk, then are you getting adequate calcuim in your diet? If not then you need to take a calcium supplement also. Check with your doctor. Sometimes a balanced diet isn't enough to help your baby develop to the best of its ability.

the folic acid is really only for the 1st 3 months, when the neural is developing.
As long as ur taking in a well balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies, the vits might not be necessary. the fish oil is good since ur body cant produce omega 3.
u will need a calcium supplement if ur not taking in dairy, esp after 20 weeks. if u dont, u will feel the effects as well - bleeding gums, leg cramps and possibly weakened bones.

The OTC ones are basically as strong because the prescribed ones. The OTC ones have each and every of the supplementations that you and infant elect. The prescribed ones oftentimes have slightly better supplementations in them. So both way your strong. i'm getting the only an afternoon prenatal supplementations, $13 for a month grant. women that don't get enough calcium while pregnant have a higher chance of getting Osteoporosis when they get older because the baby will take what they need and leave you will very little. Folic acid really doesn't do much after the 12th week, because all of the major development, except for the lungs is done by then.

As long as you eat a well balanced diet, you should be okay. The biggest thing in my opinion would be to continue taking the folic acid, as it has been found to reduce the chances of your baby having a neuro development problem, like spina bifida.

I don't drink milk either. And I didn't wanna take my prenatal vitamins either...they made me gag/sick. The doctor, however, stressed how important the extra nutrients were for my baby and I found that taking the vitamin with oj or tea helped.

Your baby and you wont get all the vitamins that you need. You should take them, if for some reason you cant, you need to talk to your doctor about what else you can do.
