I went to work, worked 2.5 hrs took the rest of my shift off as a good friend was passing away. I'm normally off at 3:00pm at 3:45 pm my supervisor called and told me to come in and work until 5pm. I was told before 4 hours minimum but I need to verify that before I claim any Personal Time Off or Personal Leave.

This isn't a legal issue, it's a company policy issue. If you are on salary they have to pay you the whole day, because you showed up; however, they can also charge your vacation time for the hours not worked.

In California, the minimum length of a day's pay is two hours (as long as you show up for a meeting, etc.). Since there were less than eight hours between the two shifts you worked on the same day, it would count as one shift and you should be paid accordingly. This would be 3.75 hours, less the time it took between the phone call and for you to arrive at work.

Personally, I think you supervisor is an *** for asking you to come in like that. I guess it depends on the direness of whatever task you had to perform and the way he/she asked/told you to come in.

Depends on company policy. Normally, you get paid what you work, unless you DO have a minimum. But if you only worked 2 1/5 hours that day, don't expect any OT.

Any hours over 8 hours a day is billed as 1.5 times salary.

I think it SHOULD be a minimum of three hours or 1.5 times your wages.
