John Denton was the first Mayor of Denton. He is buried on the old courthouse lawn and there is a plaque about him on the southwest corner. He was a lawyer, preacher, farmer and indian fighter. We live right by Denton and have walked around the Old Courthouse and read all of the plaques. If you live near there it is a fun little outing and they have a great ice cream store right across from the square. Well I am not positive he is buried there but they have a grave marker fenced in on the north east part of the Courthouse lawn and a description about him.
