I concur :-) On my first visit to London, we did the open top red bus tours which are hop on hop off. You buy a ticket that is good all day though and you can do each length of the trip more than once if you want. So you can do the whole circuit and get your bearings and your overview of possible places to visit, then start the circuit a second time around jumping off and on at the different sites. Of course, we did it on January 1st in a snowstorm..LOL!! And still a great experience (after we thawed out at the pub).

My recommendation would be that you buy yourself and them a one-day bus pass for regular London buses and take them on your own tailor-made tour, showing them the sights that you think would interest them most. It would cost less than a quarter of the price of one of the tourist operators, and you could go absolutely anywhere you wanted, not just on the very limited circuit that the sightseeing buses take.
If you don't feel that you know London well enough to act as a tour guide, buy a guidebook and use it to help you with your running commentary. It'll still work out a lot cheaper!
See this link for a selection of London guidebooks (and street atlases): http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/books/279982/
If you *must* use one of the hop-on hop-off services, the Original London Sightseeing Tour (see link already posted) is probably better than the Big Bus Company.
But for a different and more exciting kind of organised bus ride, consider the Official London Ducktour.

£23 each and every for a 40 8 hour bypass doesnt look to undesirable. right this moment of three hundred and sixty 5 days the excursion companies are scuffling with one yet another for custom and you need to get a greater physically powerful deal in case you haggle with the greater than a number of brokers who sell the tickets on the streets, regardless of if i do no longer think of the saving would be extensive (perhaps a pair of quid). purchase those online! a lot much less difficulty and stress!

The Big Bus Company. They let you get off at any site and then you can catch a different bus and continue the tour.

The special buses laid on just for this purpose. London sightseeing tours buses, best place to board them is Westminster bridge or by waterloo and shell centre
