Congratulations on the new addition!
In answer to your question: YES YES YES!!! You should wash the clothes, blankets, bibs, spit-up cloths, and sheets in a detergent that is dye and fragrance free. This way, if you do have a baby with sensitive, you will not have a reaction to any chemicals/substances on the clothes, blankets, etc or to the detergent. You are not obligated to use Dreft as now many major brands have dye free and fragrance free formulas.
Also, if you need to use a fabric softener, use the dryer sheets as they do not leave as much smell on the clothes. The smell from the liquid softener can be so strong, that it makes me sick.

Yes, all clothes should be washed before wear - no matter who they're for! I've worked in the apparel industry and know that fabric is often chemically treated for a number of reasons, and not always washed, before it arrives in the store. So, it's a good idea to wash some clothes before the baby comes so you don't have to do it when you're focusing on so many other things.
I wouldn't wash ALL of them though. Babies grow at different rates, sometimes not growing into a size before the season is over or so quickly that s/he seems to skip sizes entirely! If the clothes still have tags, many stores will allow you to exchange them for a different size or a credit.
Happy Mothering!

Congratulations first I wish to be in your shoes
Yes, I did it just because when you purchase the clothes and you touch them don't you feel them kind of stiff and the baby is going to be so soft. So go ahead and do it this time later on it will be different. Just think about it have you purchase new sheets for your bed, have you wash it before you sleep on it or not. If not tried it and you'll see the difference.
Good luck hope you choose to wash them before

Not at all! Unless they are second hand of course. If they are all brand new there is no need to wash them whatsoever. Why give yourself extra work to do when you should be relaxing & getting ready for the birth.
I have a 19 month old son & a 10 week old daughter & I didn't wash any of their brand new clothes. It doesn't seem to have affected them in any way!

I would just because you don't know where the clothes have been before you bought them. I do know that one of the preservatives they use in material for making clothes is formaldehyde. It is one of the reasons they recommend washing fabric before you make some thing out of it.
Besides, it is so much fun to wash and fold new baby clothes while you anticipate their arrival.

I washed all my new baby clothes in dreft or Ivory snow for my first child. For my second and third, I washed the clothes in All Free . . . I just felt better knowing the clothes were clean. Baby's skin can be sensitve and you don't know what the clothes came in contact with...I would say follow you hear on this one - a mothers intuition won't steer you wrong!
Congrats!

Yes, this is a good plan as you do not know where the clothes have been prior to buying. Dreft works well but Purex works well and is less expensive. Be cautious when your baby is born as he could develop a rash to laundry detergent depending on the brand and how sensitive your baby's skin is.

If you want to keep busy and not rest, then yes. Also is it so lovely washing your baby's little clothes and knowing someone will be in them in a few weeks. And they smell sooo lovely... So yes, wash them with Fairy and enjoy the feel of them. Have a good birth......

Absolutly, but if it's an issue, it doesn't have to be Dreft or the othe baby detergents. You can use some without dye, or whatever you use on your clothes. On the other hand if you forget to wash something and you put it on him, it's not a huge deal.
