At this time you have no rights. When the baby is born, if she doesn't want to name the father on the birth certificate, your son will have to request a paternity test, and pay for it. Even if she names him as father and he signs a statement of paternity, he will have to sue for custody in Family Court. As grandparents you have no rights as far as custody goes, until or unless your son is awarded custody and he gives the child to you to raise.

She's right. She can do what she wants. I know you probably won't listen to me when I say this, but smoking pot is not all that bad. My girlfriend smoked pot every day she was pregnant and our baby turned out just fine. Before you start criticizing me, realize that she had to, in order to not smoke cigarettes, which is ,by far, MUCH worse.

As long as she's not drinking or doing other drugs, it shouldn't be a problem. Sounds like your son went for the party girl. Hopefully the child is your son's, not just some other dude that was at the same party's. Have a paternal test done as soon as the child is born.

As your son and his ex-girlfriend have broken up and you are at best only grandparents anyway the whole affair is none of your business! You cannot even be sure that your son is the father of that baby! Your son abandened all his rights to the baby, but after it is born he will have to pay for its keeps!

It may not be the best thing for a pregnant girl to smoke marihuana, but for sure it is absolutely despicable to make a girl pregnant and then leave her alone!

You have every right to be concerned for your grandchild. Call department of child services. They can tell you what your sons and your rights are. Yes it is her body but if she is using drugs while pregnant it shows her lack of judgement and could result in her losing custody of the child. Sad really. My sis lost her son when he was 4 days old and she said to me that its hard to understand why people who abuse drugs and alcohol while pregnant could have healthy children but people like her who took care of themsleves and the unborn baby have to suffer the loss of the child.

I suspect that your rights may be connected to the level of responsiblity you and your son are willing to take after the child is born. You should probably consult a lawyer about this

She can, she is right. I think that is sad, but it is true. I would try to contact her doctor and let him know, maybe he can talk to her. Aside from that, you can sue if the baby comes out screwed up - although pot really isn't that bad for a baby. Sorry.

As far as I have heard its ,
you have the right to remain silent
anything you say may be used against you in a court of law
you have the right to an attorney
if you cannot afford one the court will appoint you one
do you understand your rights

If your son files for custody now, all this can be used against her. If he doesnt want to take that drastic route yet, I would at least tell him to document everything and anything she does.

Your son can file for custody. It's possible even if she hasn't given birth and you can get a blood test to prove she is smoking marijuana so she will lose custody. Get a lawyer and file a custody suit. The objective is to make her look bad so your son has to be callous and with drug test positive you can't lose. You can also get the police to arrest her for possession and force her to enter rehab.
