i have an MTD 32cc handheld leafblower. i have used it for about one season, and bought it brand new. however that cylinder head continuously comes loose. i have to completely take apart the outer shell just to tighten up two bolts. i am also using heavy-duty locktite on these bolts but they manage to come loose after about 1 hour of use. how can i fix this?

i bought it from Costco for $100.
i know the bolt is not bottoming out on anything, it goes through both attachments. i tried installing a nut onto the bolts, but there is not enough clearance for it.

get a smaller nut or a better blower....some of those cheaper ones dont work too well....if you want cheap but good, get a Yard Machine.

First call your local MTD dealer, hopefully the one you bought it from and find out if there are any recalls for that problem. Then explain your problem to them. In this day and age of gas prices you don't want to be driving around looking to get something fixed when a phone call might do the trick.

If there is no recall, ask what they suggest to do to fix the problem. Since you have already worked on this motor, that MIGHT void any warranty. Besides, what they suggest you probably will be able to do. One thing to look at is the bolts that hold the head might be too long and actually bottoming out before getting tight.

The simplest solution would be to return it for replacement/repair at an authorized MTD dealer. I had a problem with an MTD chipper/ shredder and returned it after it failed, got a new one the same day.
