I have a bright and energetic nine month old who loves going out to the park, mall or just grocery shopping with me. But now that its getting colder, I want to limit his outdoor activities. Like I won't be able to take him to the park etc. But he gets very bored at home and cries a lot. He is tired of playing the with the same toys adn me reading the same books and singing the same songs to him now. Can you suggest some indoor activities that i can do with him? I will really appreciate all input.

Use couch pillows on the floor for climbing, or, if you have the room, get a ball pit from walmart

Well, I'd try rotating his toys around. Break them in half or thirds and then rotate them every couple weeks, or as needed. Also playing chase is fun. Take him to the library for story time, it's free and a good change of scenery. Remember that the cold DOES NOT make anyone sick! Keep him dressed properly when you go out, but being outside actually keeps kids healthier. When you're inside with all of the stale air, germs, allergins, etc. that's what makes people sick. Don't believe me? Ask your doctor.

If you have the room you can bring some of the outdoor toys into the house. That is what I'm doing for my daughter. She has a little blow-up horse that she likes to ride and bounce on. My mom has a slide in her house and tile floor so she can ride her bike. I know my daughter is a little older and at 9 months your baby is still not as mobile, but those are just a few ideas.

my son loves things that are not toys. For example plastic containers, plastic spoons. Things that are safe but are different from an actual toy.

At 9 months my son was trying to walk, so I purchased him a cheap ride on toy that he can push around the house. He loves it!!! He also likes to push boxes around the house too!!!

On days where we are not able to go outside, I rotate the rooms that we are in so he does not get bored. We will play in his bedroom for awhile and then we will go into the den and later into the kitchen.

You can still go outside with your little one. Just make sure to dress him in layers and check him often to make sure that he is warm. I have taken walks with my son in temps as low as 40 (usually on sunny but chilly days) and my son did not suffer from any colds. The outside air did us both good.

I hope this helps!!

Children that age like exploring on their own; give them different objects to play with; things they can manipulate with their little hands. Most kids are just happy with a bunch of boxes lol ..
