I work in community college library and we have a Early Childhood Developemnt room where we have boxes for patrons to check out. Some of these boxes have stuffed animals in them and we are looking for a way to clean and disinfect and sanitize them. Thanks.

Kidz stuffed toys hold germs its a fact. I'm a dad of 4 and hated the lil stuffed monsters and no I'm no germaphobe.Try this its what i do. Take a bucket with hot water and an oxy cleanser gently rub down the toy then when you have scrubbed it a bit not getting it too damp give it the once over with a disinfectant spray. I use Lysol. Then let it air dry.

Hmmmm....I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're one of those germ-o-phobes, aren't you? I've never heard anyone use the term "Sanitize" when it comes to stuffed animals.

I guess the answer to your question would depend on what "Infected" the stuffed animals in the first place. Were they found in a hospital biohazard waste recepticle? Maybe the little boy from "The Velvatine Rabbit" played with the toys and you are worried your kids will get The Black Plague from them.

If they are just dirty, throw them in the washer, get them clean, then dry them in the dryer. If that's not enough, throw them out. God knows you don't want to risk getting an infectious disease from a stuffed bear!

This is how I do it if you want to try it by all means go right ahead. Since I sell kids plush toys part time the way i sanitize them and clean them well, is to one, run the toys through a cycle in the washer like you re washing a load of laundry, ( must be more than one toy ) then throw them in the dryer. they will be frsh and clean and sanitize. Now thsi is for only small to medium size plush toys, not for those big pillow characters they will just tear up. and if you want to you can spray a little febreeze on it . That's if you want it. now if the toy has hair on it like for example you got a lion and its mane is what you want to keep looking the way you want it. don't put plush toys that have manes or fine hair that is attached to them into the dryer it will mess them up. let them air dry and the hair will be fine. I hope this helps you.

From one "germaphobe" to another. I frequently pick up stuffed animals from salvation army, garage sales, etc. I usually purchase the ones that talk or move, so I am unable to put them in the wash machine. I just use the disinfecting wipes. Hope that helps.

Just wash them. This obsession with germs is giving our children asthma.
