I will be 16 weeks tomorrow and I haven't had an ultrasound. I heard the heartbeat at week 12 but haven't had a ultrasound yet is that normal? Just wondering. I have a couple of friends due very close to me and they have already had a few ultrasounds.

Don't worry - everyone and ever doctor is different! I had my first ultra sound yesterday... cause we all thought i was 18wks! Turns out i was 17wks so i had it earlier than i would have and i have to go back in two weeks for a more detailed scan as my doc generally doesn't do them until between 18-22wks unless he thinks something may be wrong.

I got told a great thing by one of the people on this site.... if you have heard the heartbeat and the doctor isn't concerned enough to do an ultrasound then its a good thing!! Means baby is going well in there and i'm sure you will have an ultra-sound in the next few weeks!

Best of luck to you and baby.

In England it is normal for your first scan at 16 to 18 weeks. You should soon get an appointment through the post for your date. You can pay for a ultra scan from as little a six weeks, This goes inside you though and the only reason I had this done was I had five miscarriages and didn't want to get my hope up again.... Needless to say I now have a beautiful baby girl who is one next month...Good luck and don't worry all areas are different...

It is not necessary or advisable to have too many ultrasounds. Usually between 18-20 week an ultrasound is scheduled to check if everything looks all right.

I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks. My next one was 18 weeks and I found out the sex of the baby.

I didn't have an ultrasound until about 18 weeks + with my first 4 children so don't be too worried! If you are anxious ask your midwife what the policy is in your area!
Good luck with the pregnancy and birth!

Every doctor is different. I had one already and I was 12 weeks but the baby is small so they pushed me back to 11 weeks. My friend is 21 weeks and she did not have an US until week 16. Every plasce does it different. Do not worry!!

With my first pregnancy i only had my first scan at 20 weeks, and a scan at 38 weeks cos they thought he was breech (he wasn't). My sister had her scans at 8, 20 and 34 weeks. I am in Oxon and she is in Northants. This time round i am schelduled one at approx 8-10 weeks but this is new to my doctors! Every health authority is different and the only way you can get early scans with some doctors is if you don't know your dates, or you have bad spotting or bleeding early on.

i listened to my babys heart beat in the doctors office when i was 9 weeks and I had my first ultrasound at 19 weeks doctors normally schedule it between 18-24 weeks because at that time its better to also determine the sex of the baby--dotn worry every doctor does things different I think they should schedule u for one in the next couple of weeks....

You should have a dating scan at about 12 weeks and then another one at about 20 weeks.
