if i take play sand and pour red food coloring in the sand would the sand stay the color used?

I'm trying to change the colors of pure play sand with-out having to spend alot of money for christmas I have planned. I can't afford all the different colors out in the stores,when i have the ingredients here.I just need to know if it work before I picked up the heavy bag of sand. Thank you!!

it might work... i wouldn't want to touch the sand after you have done that, but it might retain the color. go to a city park or something and grand a jar full to test it out

they use food colouring at my daughters pre school to colour the sand pits. They only last for about a day
