its this period of time where you get tortured right after the torture of birth, and right before the torture of hell.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

What is a life?
A rock has a life cycle. A sedimentary to a boulder to a rock to pebble to dirt and to possibly as a plant again.
A plant has a life to struggle and propagate.
But a man ponders the meaning of life. A ten thousand men(the largest number I know) ponders and have ten thousand meanings of life. The meaning of life is what ever and how ever I label to the meaning to my life. At this moment, my meaning of life is sitting in front of this question and pondering the meaning of life.
As this moment passes away, my life may end at any moment. At last, I found the meaning of life!!! my life may end soon, but it was not in vain.

To answer the question first you have to know what meaning is.
In other words, what is the meaning of meaning?
And -what is the meaning of anything?
Words have meanings. But these relate to actual things or events.
So, what is meaning when there is no particular thing or event for it to realte to? Meaningless.
It seems there is only one answer to the question: The meaning of life is whatever all the things and events in your life mean to you. (where else could the meaning be...?)
