The only birth control you can get without a prescription is to just say NO!!!

Hormonal birth control (the pill, patch, IUD, shot) must always be prescribed. There are enough severe side effects that a doctor's approval is necessary. If cost is an issue for you you can try Planned Parenthood... they do low-cost birth control for people who can't afford it. You don't even always need a pelvic exam.

You can get condoms, spermicides, the sponge, vaginal films foams and jellies over the counter at most grocery and drugstores. Of these, condoms are the only things that approach hormonal b.c. in effectiveness.

It has to be prescribed because not everyone can use the same thing. The doctor needs to examine you first and take a complete medical history. (It goes without saying that you should never take someone else's meds because they were not prescribed for you and you don't know what kind of reaction you may have.)

Besides, you should really get yourself checked out anyway for safety's sake and your own peace of mind.

you need a RX, they need to give you a vaginal exam first then they prescribe it
