Just what the modifiers say. Anytime you see the word 'maritime' you know it has to do with a marine environment, in other words, the ocean. Anytime you see the world 'continental' you know it has to do with continents, or land masses.
So maritime air masses are air masses over the water, contineental air masses are air masses over the land.

Maritime is related with the sea. and continental is with the continents or land air masses
