For authors on books regarding the subject to rake in a cool fortune by telling people all they need is a little self-confidence.

It is only so you can seem confident but it does not really reflect your ability of something. Maybe even people with low self esteem can be better at things because there always striving to improve themselves...but yea Self esteem is just an aesthetic value

Unto itself, self-esteem has no purpose or entity. It is a human belief or condition of thought, and sometimes off base, not reflecting the truth.

To help people that don't believe in themselves find confidence from within. Self Esteem helps you to believe in your abilities. Without esteem no one would be appreciated even by self. Esteem basically picks people up, that's why esteem rises (rising steam). I don't know I thought it was funny. *example*
