With all due respect it depends what you define as free speech. You can have a debate, as along as it doesn't appear to be chatting! You can ask a question and people can answer, but don't post anything too controversial otherwise they'll penalize you with the pointless point-meter. Where we get rewarded with points for answering and discriminated against for asking. Some will get censored for asking a question that makes sense but contravenes community rules, yet others can ask non sensical questions, repetitive statements and that seems to fit in just right.
The short is Yahoo answers isn't against free speech as long as you make it the way the administrators would have you say things according to non-sensical rules!

No. It's hard to understand how anyone could seriously contend that an open forum is against free speech. Yahoo! answers is, however, against prurient, libelous or slanderous speech. But those are not within the parameters of free speech.

It seems so. I was told I was in violation in response to a question regarding Affirmative Action. In attempt to use humor and rhetorical questions, I posed several inquiries as to whether or not Bush was the product of Affirmative Action. He got into Yale with mediocre scores and SAT numbers. Ergo, he got a leg up.
I was told that this was a violation since it was considered "Chatting and Personal."
Is posing a rhetorical question considered chatting? Is it personal? I didn't expect it to be answered in this forum.
I hope it was an error. If not, then there is some censorship and gatekeepers in this forum.

You do not....Have FREE SPEECH in a privately controlled forum. You do have the choice not to post stuff here.
Why??? Must people insist you have rights on the Internet?
Can you not get sued or sent to jail for OBSCENE phone calls rather as a prank or joke.
This place is no different. Please explain to me how the 1st amendment applies to Yahoo Answers?
Thanks

Somewhat. I said the word shart to a question about dirty under garments and got deleted. This one probably will too. Oh well, I'll lose some more points.

100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been kicked off several times for expressing conservative views. I have also heard from liberals who get kicked off for their views as well.
I just recently got a violation notice because I warned a participant that expressing her opinion would get her a violation notice.
The spirit of Mao is alive and well at Yahoo.
I hate that fact, this used to be a great site.

No.
But they do have a right to censor content if it is inappropriate.
All speech should be free, but all speakers should practice a degree of responsibility for what they say.

Yahoo owns the website, and can therefore control what they allow to be posted on it. That is their right.
I also don't like how they do some of the things that they do, but they do have that right. Start your OWN site, and you can do MOST of what you want. There are still limitations, and there will ALWAYS be!
