Flexeril is very effective as a muscle relaxer, but it can make you VERY drowsy. I don't suggest that you not take it based on that comment, but be prepared to look for another alternative just in case the side effects are not to your liking.

flexeril will make your muscle pain go away, but it will more than likely make you extremely drowsy. I would suggest that you take it before you go to sleep, and see how you feel in the morning. You may still feel effects in the morning. Some people take it without any drowsiness at all, and some people are knocked out for days with one tablet. Everybody reacts to medication differently so be prepared to have a good nights sleep, just in case.

I used to take Flexeril 3 times daily for chronic muscle pain. It worked like a charm, but was VERY sedating. I later switched to Baclofen, a different prescription muscle relaxant. It worked well, too, but I didn't find it as sedating as Flexeril.

Here's the basic rundown of what it does--

"GENERIC NAME: cyclobenzaprine
BRAND NAME: Flexeril
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant. Specifically, cyclobenzaprine relieves muscle spasm when the spasm is due to local problems (that is, problems originating in the muscle itself and not in the nerves controlling the muscles). Cyclobenzaprine has no effect on muscle function. Cyclobenzaprine seems to accomplish its beneficial effect through a complex mechanism within the nervous system, probably in the brainstem."

Here's the site, if you want to know more.

I've taken it a few times before. The first time it threw me for a loop--I got silly, then sleepy. The second time I had to take it, it didn't affect me as much. Anyway, I hope the site helps!

Your doctor knows you are a woman and thus subject to menstruation. Were I to guess, this fact was considered when prescribing the medication. If you're concerned, call the doctor's office and inquire.
