I just received a call from a past employer who gave "the best reference" she's ever "given for anyone" for me. What are the odds that I will get a job offer? I have already had two panel interviews. The second one was with five managers, all from different departments. I think this means there is more than one spot available. I sent a thank you note. Should I continue with a follow up call or is that too much pestering?

I think your chances are good since they are checking your references. The past employer reference certainly helps. You got to the second round and they are calling your references. You can be assured you are one of the few remaining candidates. They wouldn't bother to call your references unless they were very interested.

As for a follow-up, I would wait a 1-2 weeks after your last in person interview. However, If they gave you a time frame of two weeks, I would then contact them after two weeks..it really depends. For follow-up, I would give a friendly e-mail re-iterating you interest. It could be the difference maker, you never know. I prefer e-mail to a call unless it has been an inordinate amount of time or the hiring manager is open to it and says it. It is more casual and they won't think you are pestering.

Best of luck in getting the offer.

Its a good bet you'll get an offer. I wouldn't pester them anymore. I have seen the same stuff happen and no offer comes, so just wait and see.

It's part of the process. Don't get too excited. How many applicants do they have to fill how many positions? I would leave them alone, unless you get past a time whenthey said they would contact you. Good luck.

Don't worry yourself with guessing games. Just wait. Sometimes employer's decisions don't make sense; sometimes they do. Don't worry.
