Jessy1 has it right, but I really still love 'Little Ceasar' with Edgar G Robinson, the very FIRST gangster movie.
His gang is throwing him this big party with all of their girlfriends and they give him this platinum watch, and then the police inspector arrives and asks if anyone knows about a platimum watch that was just stolen from the jewelry store down the street.
Of course, I still love 'Pocketful of Miracles.' When Glenn Ford, the head gangster, tries to get all of the other gangsters to help out Bettie Davis by thinking of her as their own mother, one of the guys agrees that it is a good idea since he hasn't seen his Ma 'since they put her in solitary.'

Martino has the right idea, try watching the Enforcer with Humphrey Bogart for a real gritty film noir experience. My favourite? probably Pulp Fiction with Samuel l. as my fav. character.Usually in gangster movies the hit men are just film extras but in Quentin's movie the gangsters have characterisation and personality, and personality goes a long way.

An Italian film, Romanzo Criminale, which has just come out. What I enjoyed about it was the way it uses real llife events and footage in Italian history to give the film a greater realism. Well worth checking out.

All James Cagney 's films were great , but I think " White Heat " was the best ! Cagney's last words, in the film were " Look Ma, Top Of The World ".

'Once Upon A Time In America' All the child actors did a great job. As usual Ennio Morrecone's music was absolutely spellbinding.

I always liked High Sierra and White Heat. These two films are about what happens to hoods who have outlived their day, so to speak. One-time bigshots on the downward slide.
